On a monthly basis, procurement prices rose by 1.1%, while compared with March 2025 they fell by 11.5%.

The group of basic agricultural products covered by the GUS index includes wheat and rye grain, cattle, pigs and poultry for slaughter, as well as cow’s milk.

In March 2026, most of the agricultural products analysed by GUS were sold in procurement at higher prices than a month earlier. The exceptions included cattle for slaughter and cow’s milk, whose prices decreased compared with February. The situation was different on marketplaces, where in most cases farmers obtained lower prices than in the previous month.

Both in procurement and on marketplaces, maize prices increased, while prices of triticale, oats and cattle for slaughter declined.

In annual terms, however, the overall picture remained negative. In March 2026, prices of most agricultural products were lower than in the same period of the previous year, both in procurement and on marketplaces. The main exception was cattle for slaughter in procurement, whose price increased year on year.

Table of Contents

Toggle

Grain prices still below last year’s levels

Potato prices rebound in procurement

Mixed trends on the meat market

Milk prices continue to fall

Grain prices still below last year’s levels

In March 2026, the average procurement price of wheat stood at PLN 75.73 per decitonne. On marketplaces, wheat cost PLN 104.04 per decitonne, down 0.6% month on month and 9.5% year on year.

The procurement price of rye reached PLN 61.99 per decitonne. It was 1.9% higher than in February, but 14.4% lower than a year earlier. On marketplaces, rye was sold at an average price of PLN 78.04 per decitonne, which means a decline of 3.1% compared with the previous month and 10% compared with March 2025.

Potato prices rebound in procurement

A clear monthly increase was recorded in the procurement price of potatoes. Despite this strong monthly rise, potatoes were still 24.1% cheaper than a year earlier.

On marketplaces, the average potato price stood at PLN 170.77 per decitonne. The procurement price of cattle for slaughter stood at PLN 14.89 per kilogram. It was 7.9% lower than in February, but 6.7% higher than in March 2025. On marketplaces, cattle for slaughter were sold at an average of PLN 12 per kilogram, slightly below the previous month’s level and 2% lower than a year earlier.

In the case of pigs for slaughter, procurement prices rose strongly month on month. The average price reached PLN 5.82 per kilogram, up 14.3% from February. Compared with March 2025, however, it was still 5.3% lower.

The procurement price of poultry for slaughter stood at PLN 5.75 per kilogram. This was 1.7% lower than in February and 19.6% lower than in the same month of the previous year.

The GUS data therefore point to a partial short-term rebound in agricultural procurement prices, but do not change the broader market picture.
