Of this number, 667,900 were foreign visitors, accounting for 22.6% of all guests using accommodation facilities. The data show that, despite March still being outside the main tourist season, Poland remains an attractive destination for weekend tourism, business travel, family visits and transit stays.

Foreign tourists were provided with nearly 1.52 million overnight stays during this period. This means that one foreign visitor spent an average of 2.28 nights in Poland. The share of foreign visitors in the total number of overnight stays was 23.1%, slightly higher than their share in the total number of tourists. This suggests that foreign visitors tend to stay slightly longer on average than some domestic tourists.

<div id="ez-toc-container" class="ez-toc-v2_0_84 counter-hierarchy ez-toc-counter >Conclusions

Germany remains the most important source market

The largest group of foreign tourists came from Germany. In March 2026, 140,300 visitors from Germany stayed in Polish accommodation facilities. They accounted for 21% of all foreign tourists. At the same time, they were provided with as many as 395,700 overnight stays, or around 26% of all overnight stays granted to foreign visitors.

German tourists also stood out in terms of length of stay. On average, they spent 2.82 nights in Poland, one of the highest results among the main source markets. The strong position of this country is primarily due to geographical proximity, well-developed economic relations, business travel and the popularity of short weekend trips to Polish cities and border regions.

The United Kingdom in second place

The second most important market was the United Kingdom. In March 2026, Poland was visited by 80,400 tourists from the UK, who accounted for 188,400 overnight stays. Their average stay was 2.34 nights.

The importance of the British market is strongly linked to air transport, the large number of low-cost connections and the presence of a large Polish diaspora in the United Kingdom. Traffic from this direction is year-round in nature. It includes family visits, tourist trips and business travel. The high number of overnight stays also indicates that visitors from the United Kingdom do not limit themselves only to very short stays.

Ukraine was the third-largest source of arrivals

Ukraine ranked third. In March 2026, 71,300 tourists from Ukraine used Polish accommodation facilities. They were provided with 151,900 overnight stays, while the average length of stay was 2.13 nights.

This market, however, requires special interpretation. Some arrivals may be related to family, trade, work or visits to people staying in Poland after the outbreak of the war. Compared with visitors from the United Kingdom or the United States, a slightly smaller share of Ukrainian guests used hotels, which may reflect the greater importance of cheaper forms of accommodation or stays of a more practical nature.

The United States performs strongly outside the season

The United States ranked fourth. In March 2026, 44,700 tourists from the US came to Poland and were provided with 89,900 overnight stays. Their average stay was 2.01 nights.

The high position of the US confirms Poland’s growing importance as a destination for tourists from outside Europe. The Polish-American community plays a major role here, but so does the growing interest in Poland as a culturally, historically and economically attractive country. It is also characteristic that more than 90% of visitors from the US stayed in hotels, pointing to a relatively high share of organised or commercial forms of travel.

Europe dominates the structure of arrivals

The vast majority of foreign tourists visiting Poland in March came from Europe. Countries of Western and Northern Europe accounted for a total of 340,900 arrivals. This group includes Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries, among others.

The second large group consisted of countries from Eastern and Southern Europe, from which 181,300 tourists arrived. Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania and Belarus played an important role in this category. This shows that Poland’s inbound tourism is based not only on major Western markets, but also on regional and neighbouring-country traffic.

Czechs, Italians, Spaniards and French visitors in the top ten

The top ten countries also included the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, France, Lithuania and China. The Czech Republic accounted for 36,900 tourists, who were provided with 80,500 overnight stays. There were 31,300 visitors from Italy, with 68,700 overnight stays.

Spain and France recorded very similar results. Spain accounted for 19,900 tourists, while France accounted for 19,500. In both cases, the average length of stay was 2.16 nights. These data show that Poland is increasingly functioning as a city-break and cultural travel destination also for tourists from Southern and Western Europe.

China signals the return of Asian tourism

China is also worth noting, as it entered the top ten countries by number of tourists. In March 2026, Poland was visited by 14,300 guests from China, who were provided with 28,300 overnight stays. Their average stay was 1.98 nights.

Although Asia’s share in the overall structure of arrivals remains relatively small, the data point to a gradual return of tourist traffic from this region. In March, nearly 20,000 tourists came from China, Japan, Korea, India, Israel and the United Arab Emirates combined. For a month outside the main tourist season, this is an important signal for the hotel industry, transport operators and cities focused on international tourism.

Hotels remain the main accommodation base for foreign tourists

The data show that most foreign tourists used hotels. A particularly high share of hotel stays was visible among visitors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden and China. This points to the commercial and urban character of a large part of foreign tourist traffic.

The situation is different for some neighbouring countries, where other forms of accommodation may play a greater role. This applies, among others, to Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. In these cases, the structure of travel is more diverse and may include short family, trade, transit or local trips.

Poland benefits from proximity, air connections and family-related travel

The March data show that Poland’s inbound tourism is based on several pillars. The first is neighbourhood and easy access from countries such as Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovakia and Ukraine. The second is air connections, particularly important for the British, Italian, Spanish, French and American markets. The third remains family and migration-related ties, especially visible in the case of the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the United States.

The results for March 2026 indicate that Poland attracts tourists not only during the holiday season. Large cities, the hotel offer, business events, weekend tourism and air connections make it possible to maintain significant foreign tourist traffic also during transitional months.

Conclusions

March 2026 confirmed Germany’s strong position as the most important source market for inbound tourism to Poland. Germans accounted for more than one-fifth of all foreign tourists and more than one-quarter of overnight stays provided to foreign visitors. The United Kingdom also maintained a very strong position, supported by air connections and Polish diaspora traffic.

Ukraine remained the third-largest source of arrivals, although the nature of this traffic is more complex than typical leisure tourism. The United States confirmed its growing importance as a long-haul market, while China became a signal of the recovery of traffic from Asia. Overall, the data show that Poland has an increasingly diversified structure of foreign tourists, although Europe’s dominance remains very clear.

Source: Statistics Poland, National Tourism Statistics, “Foreign tourists by selected countries in March 2026”.
