The only region to record a slight increase was Ma\u0142opolskie, where the population rose by 0.3 thousand. The largest declines were recorded in \u015al\u0105skie (\u221229.6 thousand), \u0141\u00f3dzkie (\u221217.1 thousand) and Lubelskie (\u221215.7 thousand). The smallest decreases occurred in Pomorskie (\u22121.1 thousand) and Mazowieckie (\u22122.5 thousand). Mazowieckie nevertheless remains Poland\u2019s most populous voivodeship.<\/p>\n\n<div id=\"gus26-chart-woj\" class=\"gus26-chartbox\">\n  <canvas id=\"gus26CanvasWoj\"><\/canvas>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Population_by_type_of_municipality\"><\/span>Population by type of municipality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Urban municipalities had 17.72 million residents, rural municipalities 10.33 million, and urban-rural municipalities 9.29 million.<\/p>\n\n<p>Over the year, the population declined both in urban areas (\u2212121.7 thousand) and in rural areas (\u221234.9 thousand). Administrative changes should be taken into account when comparing these categories, as some residents were reclassified from the rural to the urban population.<\/p>\n\n<div id=\"gus26-chart-typy\" class=\"gus26-chartbox gus26-chartbox-sm\">\n  <canvas id=\"gus26CanvasTypy\"><\/canvas>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Population_growth_is_concentrated_around_metropolitan_areas\"><\/span>Population growth is concentrated around metropolitan areas<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>At county level, population growth was recorded in only 37 of 380 units. The largest increases occurred in Krak\u00f3w (+7.4 thousand), Pozna\u0144 County (+5.1 thousand) and Wroc\u0142aw County (+3.4 thousand), as well as in Warsaw (+2.9 thousand) and the neighbouring counties of Piaseczno (+2.6 thousand) and Wo\u0142omin (+2.1 thousand).<\/p>\n\n<p>The same pattern is visible at municipality level. Growth was recorded, among other places, in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Lesznowola, Raszyn and Radzymin around Warsaw; Kosakowo, \u017bukowo, Szemud and Wejherowo around the Tri-City; D\u0142ugo\u0142\u0119ka, Czernica and Mi\u0119kinia near Wroc\u0142aw; Dopiewo, K\u00f3rnik, Rokietnica and Tarnowo Podg\u00f3rne near Pozna\u0144; and Wieliczka near Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n<div id=\"gus26-chart-powiaty\" class=\"gus26-chartbox gus26-chartbox-sm\">\n  <canvas id=\"gus26CanvasPowiaty\"><\/canvas>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gus26-callout\">\n  <strong>Key conclusion:<\/strong> Statistics Poland data show that population growth is concentrated in the largest metropolitan areas and their immediate surroundings. This does not mean, however, that all central cities are losing residents: Krak\u00f3w and Warsaw are among the units with the strongest growth.
