Janusz Filipiak, CEO of Comarch, has passed away. The company announced the death of the entrepreneur in an official statement. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition at the beginning of October.

“The Management Board of Comarch S.A. with great sadness informs about the receipt of information about the death of the President of the Management Board, Professor Janusz Filipiak. In connection with the above, the mandate of Professor Janusz Filipiak in the management of the Company expires on December 17, 2023. Professor Janusz Filipiak was a co-founder of Comarch S.A., one of the main shareholders and a long-time President of the Management Board of the Company,” we read in the statement.

“We mourn the loss of this very special person, a unique mind and visionary, who in a unique way contributed to the development of the Polish IT industry,” adds the company.

Comarch, headquartered in Krakow, is one of the leaders of Polish IT companies. Founded in 1993, the company is a global provider of business IT solutions that support customer relationships, optimize business operations, and business processes.

Filipiak was awarded the Knight’s Cross and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, as well as the Individual Economic Prize of the President of the Republic of Poland, for his contributions to the development of Polish telecommunications, information technology, and the economy.

Professor Janusz Filipiak was also the owner of the Krakow football club Cracovia. Filipiak owned and led the Cracovia football club from 2004 to 2023. The team won the Polish Cup and Super Cup, and finished fourth in the league three times. The hockey team won the Polish championship seven times. Filipiak was also one of the richest people in Poland, with a net worth of around PLN 650 million.

Filipiak was admitted to the hospital on September 30, 2023, in critical condition, after a sudden cardiac arrest. Since then, he has been in a state of pharmacological coma, until December 17, 2023, when he died at the age of 71 at the University Hospital in Krakow.
