Retail sales in Poland accelerated markedly in June 2026. At constant prices, they were 6.2% higher than a year earlier and 1.4% higher than in May. The strongest growth was recorded in furniture, consumer electronics and household appliances, while the value of online sales increased by 12.3% year on year. The data point to an improvement in consumption, although part of the strong growth was associated with a larger number of trading days.
Retail sales at constant prices were 6.2% higher in June 2026 than in the corresponding month of the previous year. By comparison, the annual growth rate in June 2025 was 2.2%.
On a monthly basis, compared with May 2026, retail sales increased by 1.4%. From January to June, sales rose by 3.5% year on year. In the first half of 2025, sales grew slightly faster, by 3.7%.
Sales also increased after seasonal adjustment
After eliminating the impact of seasonal factors, retail sales at constant prices were 4.7% higher in June than a year earlier. Compared with May, they increased by 1.7%.
Statistics Poland noted that the strong annual growth in sales was influenced, among other factors, by a larger number of trading days than in June 2025. This means that part of the acceleration may have resulted from the calendar effect, although growth also remained positive after seasonal adjustment.
Furniture and household appliances recorded the strongest growth
In June, sales at constant prices increased in all groups analysed by Statistics Poland. The strongest growth was recorded in the category covering furniture, consumer electronics and household appliances, where sales rose by 14.8% year on year.
Double-digit growth was also recorded in sales of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and orthopaedic equipment, which increased by 10.2%.
In the group classified by Statistics Poland as “other”, sales increased by 9.9%. Sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts rose by 9.6%, while sales of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels increased by 9.0%.
Considerably weaker growth was recorded in categories covering everyday goods. Sales of textiles, clothing and footwear increased by 3.3%, while sales of food, beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.7%.
Clothing recorded the strongest growth compared with May
On a monthly basis, the strongest growth was recorded in textiles, clothing and footwear. Sales in this category increased by 5.0% compared with May.
Sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts increased by 3.2%. Sales of fuels and food rose by 1.4% and 1.1%, respectively.
A monthly decline was recorded in sales of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and orthopaedic equipment, which fell by 2.4%. Sales of newspapers, books and other goods in specialised stores decreased by 1.3%.

Fuels led growth in the first half of the year
From January to June 2026, the strongest increase in sales at constant prices was recorded in the fuels category. Sales were 10.3% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Sales of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and orthopaedic equipment increased by 7.9% in the first half of the year. Growth in the “other” group reached 7.5%, while sales of furniture, consumer electronics and household appliances rose by 7.0%.
Sales of food, beverages and tobacco products remained below the level recorded in the first half of 2025, declining by 1.1%. Sales of newspapers, books and other goods offered by specialised stores also fell, by 1.7%.
Online sales increased by 12.3%
The value of online retail sales at current prices was 12.3% higher in June than a year earlier. The share of e-commerce in total retail sales increased from 8.7% in June 2025 to 9.1% in June 2026.
The growing importance of the online channel was particularly visible in sales of furniture, consumer electronics and household appliances, as well as newspapers and books. A slight decline in the online share was recorded in textiles, clothing and footwear.
Clothing continues to have a high online sales share
In textiles, clothing and footwear, the share of online sales declined from 23.0% in June 2025 to 22.6% in June 2026. Despite the slight decrease, online sales still accounted for more than one-fifth of sales in this category.
Sales value at current prices increased by 6.8%
At current prices, without eliminating the impact of price changes, the value of retail sales was 6.8% higher in June than a year earlier. Compared with May, it increased by 0.2%.
Food, beverages and tobacco products accounted for the largest share of retail sales, at 25.3%. Fuels represented 14.3% of sales, the “other” group 9.7%, and pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and orthopaedic equipment 8.2%.
Data do not include the smallest companies
The data published by Statistics Poland cover trade and non-trade enterprises employing more than nine people. Companies are classified according to their predominant type of activity.
Changes in sales within individual groups may partly result from organisational changes at enterprises or changes in their predominant type of activity. According to Statistics Poland, however, this does not affect the growth rate of total retail sales.
