Technology Trends That Will Impact Businesses in 2020

The coming months in the new technology industry will be marked by further expansion of augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The planned construction of the 5G network in Poland will significantly translate into the development of the Industrial Things Internet (IIoT). E-commerce systems, on the other hand, will evolve and become smarter with every moment, which will make them try to sell us even more.

The year 2020 is a continuation of the fast-paced trend of precursor solutions based on the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Further development of the previously known e-commerce platforms will take place not only on the screen of a laptop, phone or tablet, but also through augmented reality glasses (AR). The new year will probably bring many successful training projects using virtual reality (VR). The effective use of all kinds of IoT sensors in production processes, real-time data visualization and remote communication, allowing to transfer huge amounts of data in 5G standard, is another revolution in Industry 4.0, which we will also witness.

5G a Smart Maintenance and Industry 4.0 network

5G will have a major impact on the implementation of new technologies in business. The process of introducing this network all over the world is already underway. Considering Poland in particular, we are still talking about the testing phase. It is expected that in the country on the Vistula River, 5G will be handed over to telecommunication operators just before the next holidays, and the network, according to the Minister of Digitization, will cover one of the major cities already in the fourth quarter of 2020. The implementation of 5G will involve an increase in Internet capacity, which will allow for an increase in global traffic from mobile networks.

The development of this technology will entail the revival of another industry – the Industrial Internet of Things, aimed at improving production efficiency and making it more integrated. With IIoT it is possible to predict leaks from pipes, control equipment temperature or gas pressure. By placing sensors in selected systems, companies will be able to obtain real-time information relevant to equipment maintenance, remote diagnosis and repair support. Numerous market implementations in many modern companies confirm the effectiveness of IIoT solutions, an example being the one introduced by the American conglomerate – General Electric Company, the central management network (IIoT). GE company operating, among others, in the sectors of machinery and equipment production, energy production and oil extraction, is also one of the largest manufacturers of engines for wind farms. The implemented network of IIoT sensors allowed to create a central management network of machines. Additional information has made the farms much more integrated. The result of modern solutions was an increase in productivity and prolonged life of the machines themselves, due to better optimized operation.

Smart Maintenance solutions are already in use today, but the introduction of the 5G network will make us meet with them much more often. All this is due to the faster data transfer and the fact that the network will also function properly if a large number of devices are connected in a small area.

Faster, more convenient, more efficient – using AI for online sales

The development of Artificial Intelligence tools, generating an increase in the range of marketing activities, will make these departments more willing to reach for the aforementioned solutions. In the coming year they will even become a necessity in a market full of competition. A great advantage of Artificial Intelligence is the fact that it greatly facilitates the work of marketers, which helps them to anticipate trends and adjust products more effectively. Continuing, thanks to the algorithms, AI is able to learn and, on the basis of known examples, take concrete actions. Netflix uses such systems to offer its viewers more films and series based on their preferences. The increasingly intelligent ChatBots or VoiceBots, which will replace at least the initial purchase or after-sales process, will give small players an additional opportunity to build economies of scale. An example of this is the VoiceBote-based chain of hairdressing salons Jean Louis David with his virtual assistant Anna Grzywka, who arranges appointments. According to Gartner, 85 percent of the company’s customer-to-consumer contacts next year will already be held without human intervention, and 61 percent of marketers already consider Artificial Intelligence to be the most important aspect of their data management strategy.

In addition to the SI, we should also mention the e-commerce sales platforms, which are outperforming each year in more and more advanced functions. These are aimed at engaging the incoming user through well-thought-out sales strategies, resulting in increased conversion and positive company results. The market leader will invariably be Adobe together with Magento and Sitecore and Sitecore Commerce, as well as Salesforce, which specialize in the medium and large customer segment. Owners of online shops will be looking for more modular solutions, which by themselves will provide at least basic purchasing, analytical, marketing or mailing automation functions. By adding cloud solutions to this, they will quickly be able to build a scale effect. The subscription-based license sales model will give smaller stores a chance to use the aforementioned global platforms as well.
