According to the budget plan for the year 2024, the average salary will amount to 7,824 PLN, which means an increase of as much as 12.8% compared to 2023. The ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) contributions for companies will also increase by the same percentage.

The basis for determining the ZUS contributions for entrepreneurs is set at 60% of average earnings. As a result, it will be 4694.40 PLN, and the total ZUS contributions for the year 2024 will be 1,600.27 PLN (excluding health insurance contribution, which is calculated separately depending on the chosen form of taxation). In 2023, the contributions amounted to 1418.48 PLN, which signifies an increase of 181.79 PLN per month.

Piotr Juszczyk, Chief Tax Advisor at inFact, stated: “ZUS contributions increase each year and constitute a significant burden for entrepreneurs. In 2024, the health insurance contribution for taxpayers settling on a tax scale or a flat tax will amount to at least 381.78 PLN. This means that these two groups of entrepreneurs will pay a minimum of 1982.05 PLN of ZUS contributions per month. Annually, this obligation will therefore not be less than 23,784.60 PLN. It’s worth noting that these taxes will be paid even by those companies that will encounter problems in 2024, i.e., they will achieve low income or even incur a loss.”

Entrepreneurs settling based on a lump-sum recorded tax will only learn the amount of health insurance contribution in January 2024. The basis of contribution for this taxpayer group is determined based on the average remuneration of the fourth quarter. Considering its projected value at the level of 7400 PLN, contributions for the lump-sum taxpayers would vary depending on the annual income:

– Up to 60,000 – 399.60 PLN per month;
– Between 60,000 and 300,000 – 666 PLN per month;
– Above 300,000 – 1,198.80 PLN per month.

Adding up these projected amounts to the contributions of the large ZUS, it can be seen that the total burden will be between approximately 2,000 PLN and 2,800 PLN.

“In my opinion, the effects of the continuous increase in ZUS contributions will be felt in prices. This is, of course, not the only component influencing their height, but very important. Remember that in 2021, ZUS contributions with a deduction of part of health insurance contribution costs amounted to about 1139 PLN and such a real cost was borne by the entrepreneur on large ZUS. In 2024, it will be a minimum of nearly 2000 PLN. The jump is therefore huge, and it must be remembered that the amount of the health contribution for taxpayers on a scale and linear tax is unlimited and grows along with their income,” added Piotr Juszczyk.
