CPK Signs PLN 8.9 Million Design Contract for New Cargo Infrastructure

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), the company spearheading the “Port Polska” investment program, has officially signed a contract with Przedsiębiorstwo Spółdzielcze „Budoprojekt” for the design documentation of the next phase of the Airport’s Cargo Zone. This marks the second of three pivotal design agreements planned for this strategic sector of the future airport.

Focus on Logistics Integrators

The Cargo 2 project focuses on a specialized complex of facilities and supporting infrastructure dedicated to integrators—logistics giants with their own independent distribution networks.

Valued at PLN 8.9 million gross, the investment aims to meet the surging global demand for air freight by providing a high-capacity environment for courier and express shipments. The primary goal is to ensure logistical continuity while optimizing processing times.

Strategic Design and Security

To achieve maximum efficiency, the project integrates warehousing, transshipment, and sorting functions into a single, cohesive spatial layout. A key priority is the strict separation of airside and landside zones. This ensures:

  • Enhanced Security: Robust cargo protection and controlled access points.

  • Personnel Safety: Optimized workflows that minimize operational risks.

  • Seamless Transfer: Facilities are positioned at the interface of air and ground zones to allow direct cargo flow between aircraft and land transport.

These “transfer points” are designed to minimize storage duration and maximize throughput, effectively turning the Cargo Zone into a high-speed gateway for international trade.

Technological Flexibility

A central feature of the design is the sorting zone. It is engineered to facilitate the rapid division of shipments into batches based on their destination. The planned technological and spatial solutions are built for scalability, allowing the system to remain flexible regardless of fluctuating cargo volumes.

Project Context and Timeline

The design of the Cargo Zone has been divided into three distinct parts to manage the project’s massive scale and the unique technical requirements of different infrastructure elements.

  • Cargo 1: The first design contract was previously awarded to Cundall Polska.

  • Cargo 2: This current contract with Budoprojekt.

  • Cargo 3: The final contract in this series is expected to follow shortly.

According to the current investment schedule, the facilities within the Cargo Zone are slated to be operational and commissioned by the end of 2031.
