Poland’s road authority has awarded the Mirbud–Budpol consortium a contract worth more than PLN 571 million to design and build over 16 km of the A2 motorway between Biała Podlaska and Kijowiec. It is the last section needed to complete the motorway link from the German border towards the Koroszczyn freight terminal near Belarus. The authority expects it to open in 2030.
The Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced the contract on 3 November. Mirbud leads the consortium, which will prepare the technical and detailed construction designs and then carry out the works.
Ten months for design and 22 months for construction
The project already has a road construction permit, known in Poland as a ZRID. The contractor can therefore start preparatory work on site while completing the design documents.
The schedule allows 10 months for design and another 22 for construction. The construction timetable excludes winter breaks from 16 December to 15 March. GDDKiA says the 2030 opening depends on the project proceeding smoothly.
Two lanes each way, with room for a third
The Biała Podlaska–Kijowiec section will run through the Lublin region. It will have two carriageways with two lanes in each direction and space for a third lane in the future.
The contract also covers engineering structures, roads for local traffic, drainage and lighting, as well as facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. The route will have road safety equipment and wildlife crossings to reduce its environmental impact.
Separate routes for freight and passenger traffic at the border
The project will complete the eastern extension of the A2. In June 2026, GDDKiA awarded the contract to design and build the neighbouring Kijowiec–Dobryń section, which is more than 9 km long.
The motorway will end at the Dobryń interchange. Lorries will continue along national road 68 to the Koroszczyn terminal, which handles freight crossing the Belarusian border. Passenger cars will use national road 2 to reach the Terespol crossing.
More than 65 km of the A2 between the Siedlce Południe and Biała Podlaska interchanges have been open since the end of June 2026. That allows drivers to travel by motorway from Warsaw to Biała Podlaska.
More lanes between Łódź and Warsaw
Work to widen the A2 west of Warsaw is also under way. Four contracts worth nearly PLN 1.3 billion cover more than 90 km between Łódź and Warsaw. The last was signed on 26 October 2026.
There will be three lanes in each direction from the Łódź Północ interchange to Pruszków and four from Pruszków to Konotopa. Completion is scheduled for late 2027 or early 2028, depending on the section.
