Some 76% of respondents in Bank Millennium’s 2026 survey on Polish household finances said they save money. Among savers, 32% set aside less than 5% of their monthly income and 28% said their savings had fallen since the start of the year.
Some 28% of respondents are looking for alternatives to traditional saving. When choosing where to put their money, half put protecting their capital ahead of the chance of a high return, while 16% said they would take on more risk.
Investors aim to protect their money from inflation
Among those who already invest, the most common goals were to protect their money from inflation and to provide for their own or their children’s future. Each was cited by 60% of investors, while 48% said they wanted to grow their wealth.
Property and workplace retirement savings were among the most popular choices. Respondents also cited bonds, commodities and other retirement savings options. More than half of investors commit no more than PLN 500 a month.
More than half say investing requires market knowledge
Just over 51% of respondents said investing was only for people who know the market well, and only 11% rated their own investment knowledge as good or very good. Some 42% worried that their money could be tied up for a long time. Investing was the area of finance that respondents most wanted to learn about, with 46% expressing an interest.
Online banking is the most common route into investing
Among surveyed investors, 55% invest independently through online banking and 37% get help from an adviser at a bank branch. Bank Millennium says it plans to introduce a brokerage account in its app by the end of 2026. Paweł Baluch, head of the bank’s brokerage division, said the account would let customers buy shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on foreign markets. The bank says it will charge no account maintenance fee.
The fifth edition of Bank Millennium’s survey was conducted online in July and August 2026 using the Ariadna National Research Panel. It covered a nationally representative sample of 1,050 people aged 18 and over.
