Investor activity on the WSE Group’s markets – December 2016

  • The value of issues quoted on Catalyst grew by 17.5%, and turnover of non-Treasury bonds in the order book system declined by 23.2% y/y

Combined turnover of shares on the Main Market reached PLN 23.0 billion in December 2016, or 24.9% more than a year earlier. Turnover of shares in the order book system grew by 31.2% year on year, to PLN 21.5 billion, and average daily turnover of shares in the order book system reached PLN 1.0 million. The WIG index stood at 51,754.03 points at the end of December 2016, up 11.4% from a year earlier.

On the NewConnect market, total turnover of shares declined by 0.4% year on year. The total value of trade in shares on the alternative market in December stood at PLN 140.2, and in the order book system at PLN 101.5 million.

In December, total trade in derivative instruments stood at 944,100 securities, up 19.6% from a year earlier. Turnover in futures contracts on indices reached 574,200 securities, meaning growth of 6.3% compared with December 2015. Significant growth was also noted in turnover of remaining futures contracts. For contracts on shares it reached 92.2% year on year (175,600 securities in December 2016); currency contracts grew by 44.7% to 157,200 securities. Meanwhile, total turnover in interest-rate futures contracts reached a record level: 2,200 securities.

The value of non-Treasury bond issues listed on the Catalyst market stood at PLN 81.8 billion at the end of December, meaning growth of 17.5% year on year. Turnover in bonds on the Catalyst market in the order book system fell by 23.2% year on year, to PLN 155.0 million.

Total turnover in bonds on TBSP in December 2016 reached PLN 28.8 billion, down 32.0% from a year earlier.

Turnover of natural gas in volume terms reached 12.8 TWh in December 2016, 54.8% more than a year earlier, with the highest growth noted on the spot market, where trading volume reached 3.5 TWh (up 78.7% year on year). In turn, total trade in electricity on spot and forward markets in December 2016 reached 8.8 TWh, or 48.0% lower than a year earlier.

Trade in rights arising from certificates of origin, excluding rights from certificates related to energy efficiency (“white certificates”)2 on the spot and forward markets stood at 4.0 TWh, a decline of 25.7% in relation to December 2015. Turnover in rights arising from certificates of origin related to energy efficiency (“white certificates”) reached 64.6 ktoe3 in December 2016.

The capitalisation of 434 domestic companies noted on the Main Market stood at PLN 557.1 billion (EUR 125.9 billion). Total capitalisation of 487 domestic and foreign companies listed on the Main Market at the end of December was PLN 1.1157 trillion (EUR 252.2 billion).

The company TXM S.A. debuted on the main market in December 2016. Two companies made their debuts on NewConnect: Outdoorzy S.A. and Termo2Power S.A.
