Increase in stock trading, decrease in derivatives trading in September 2023

In September 2023, the total equity turnover value on the main GPW market amounted to PLN 22.9 billion, which is 0.4% lower than in the same period of the previous year. The equity turnover value within the order book increased by 3.3% YoY to PLN 22.1 billion. The average daily equity turnover value within the order book was PLN 1.1 billion, 8.2% higher than the previous year. The WIG index value at the end of September was 65,397.43 points, 42.3% higher than last year.

In September, the total equity turnover value on the NewConnect market increased by 38.8% YoY to PLN 163.8 million. The equity turnover value within the order book on the NewConnect market increased by 35.3% YoY to PLN 157.1 million.

The equity turnover value on the GlobalConnect market in September amounted to PLN 177.6 thousand.

The total volume of derivatives trading in September amounted to 1.4 million units, 27.5% less than in the previous year. The index contracts trading volume decreased by 33.8% YoY to 885.5 thousand units. The currency contracts trading volume decreased by 6.2% YoY to 334.2 thousand units, and the equity contracts trading volume decreased by 21.8% YoY to 120.0 thousand units.

In September, the turnover value in structured products decreased by 27.2% YoY to PLN 238.2 million, and the total turnover value in ETF and ETCs decreased by 26.2% YoY to PLN 66.5 million.

Proceeds from nontreasury bond emissions listed at the Catalyst market stood at PLN 105.9 billion at the end of September, up from PLN 94.7 billion in the previous year. Bond trading volume within the order book on the Catalyst market decreased by 22.2% YoY to PLN 336.3 million.

The total bond trading proceeds on the TBSP market amounted to PLN 22.1 billion, up 30.0% YoY from PLN 17.0 billion in the previous year.

The total electricity trading volume on the spot and future markets amounted to 13.1 TWh in September, an increase of 10.1% YoY. The spot market electrical energy trading volume increased by 126.3% YoY to 5.4 TWh, while the forward market volume decreased by 19.4% YoY to 7.6 TWh.

The total natural gas trading volume increased by 4.8% YoY to 10.6 TWh. The spot market volume decreased by 24.6% to 1.1 TWh. On the futures market, the volume increased by 9.6% YoY to 9.6 TWh.

The volume of property rights resulting from certificates of origin, excluding rights from certificates related to energy efficiency (so-called “white certificates”), on the spot market stood at 1.6 TWh, an increase of 13.3% YoY.

The volume of property rights resulting from certificates of origin related to energy efficiency (“white certificates”) fell by 5.7% YoY to 7.5 ktoe.

Turnover of Origin Guarantees for electricity produced in RES decreased by 60.2% YoY to 1.6 TWh.

The market value of 369 domestic companies listed on the Main Market in September 2023 stood at PLN 631.0 billion (€136.1 billion).

The total market value of 412 domestic and foreign companies listed on the Main Market reached PLN 1,319.0 billion (€284.5 billion).

IPOs of the following companies took place on the NewConnect market: DEMOLISH GAMES S.A. (IPO value: PLN 1 million), FREEMIND S.A. (IPO value: PLN 1.1 million) and PLOT TWIST S.A. (IPO value: PLN 5.6 million).

In September, there were 21 trading sessions on the GPW compared to 22 sessions in the previous year.
